“How to Kill the Ball” and “21st Century Golf Swing”

My Background

I have been playing golf for about 20 years. I have read many books and taken my fair share of lessons with the desire to get as good as I possibly could at golf.

While there are so many theories out there on golf instruction I believe that there is a method that will suit each individual if only they could find it!!! I am happy that I have found mine.

When I read Dan Shauger’s book “How to Kill the Ball” and he was advocating the cocking action of the wrist’s that I had been using before, I thought awesome…..this is for me. I followed the instruction’s from the book and as expected my handicap dropped. Not only did I have the hand action I could now add the other elements of the swing including the pivot.
(I actually played a year with a cocking under of the wrist before reading Dan’s book. I played some of my best golf but as this style didn’t really conform to what I considered the “normal way” I had changed back….maybe you know how this feels)

So I jumped on the plane and flew to Los Angeles to spend time with Dan and became one of the first accredited teachers of his golf swing method.

A year later I jumped on another plane and flew to Florida to meet Geoff Mangum a world renowned putting expert…..and yes I became the first New Zealand PuttingZone coach.

So for me I have the best of both world’s……”How to Kill the Ball” for your long game and the Puttingzone for your short game.

I have read, watched and tried the various methods suggested by these teachers

My thoughts on learning to play golf

I believe golf is learned in 4 stages

1. The mechanics of the swing
2. Short game: putting, chipping and pitching
3. Course Strategy
4. Mental application

You must become competent in all these areas to play to your best ability and that’s why golf is so challenging.

The book’s and Dvd’s are great assets to have as they give you reference points……
