Dan Shauger Golf Swing

For those golfers new to the Dan Shauger golf swing it is important to understand that we start releasing the golf club right from the top of the back swing. Yes unlike the commonly taught swing where they teach lag and holding certain angles, we teach the exact opposite. We want the club to freely release from the top of your golf swing.

As you can see in the Dan Shauger golf swing he is clearly releasing the golf club from the top of his back swing. Now there is some timing issues that you will need to learn before swinging the club this way.

Firstly

  • The Body must move first by shifting the weight from your back foot to your front foot
  • Your left arm must remain across your chest
  • Your hands MUST be soft
  • The throwing action is created by unwinding your forearm and wrists

With practice you will naturally be able to literally throw your golf club in the manner that Dan is showing in his golf swing video. If you can picture yourself holding a plate in your hand at the top of your golf swing, similar to a waiter, you are actually using a spinning motion to start the golf club down.

This spinning action is what he calls “spinning the meat balls” in his books and Dvd’s. By unwinding the forearms and letting the wrists virtually go around by themselves you will create a very fast whipping action with your hands.

This whipping action creates the speed required to hit the ball a long way. The faster the club head moves the further your golf ball fly’s as a general rule…..you need to have good contact with the ball as well. Mike Austin described this action as “supple quickness”. The softer the hands the faster the club head can unwind.

The Dan Shauger golf swing is certainly a unique form of golf instruction

Do you know of an instructor in the San Jose, CA area that teaches you swing method?
It makes a lot of sense versus the “baseball” swing where timing is everything.
