Dan Shauger had the pleasure in working with Mike Austin for over 25 years. From this experience Dan put pen to paper and wrote his first Golf Instructional Book "How to Kill the Ball" the formula for "Power and Accuracy".
What strikes you first about this book is the cover. The image on the front is of "Mike Dunaway" a world long drive champion. Mike Dunaway has been acknowledged by Greg Norman and even Long John Daly as the longest and most accurate driver of the golf ball.
Unfortunately not too many people are aware of Mike Austin or even Mike Dunaway's achievements when it comes to long drive competitions. Hence the reason for the "How To Kill the Ball" book.
What you will learn from this book is the correct movements of the body that enable you to make the most efficient actions to swing the golf swing. When your body moves in the correct sequence everything else just happens as a consequence.
Once the correct movements are learnt your ability to forget about the mechanics of the golf swing is made easier. Thinking in the golf swing is one of the MAJOR causes of duffed shots. The proper movements of the swing are discussed in great detail. It may take a bit of digesting at first when reading the book for the first time. However writing about body movement and trying to describe what happen's is a very difficult job.
To make it easier there are plenty of exercises and drills to do to engrain the proper movements of the this swing method. Dan has also produced golf instruction DVD's to support your learning. One of the Drills is called the "Pole Drill".
Pole Drill
If you have a broom stick or a similar length piece or wood you can perform this simple exercise. Place the stick behind your back and have it locked between the elbows of both arms. Now you simply take a normal golf stance and move your hips sideways as far as they will go. You will get to a point where the right leg will straighten. When this happpen's turn your shoulders to start the back swing. Now you are in a very strong position behind the ball. At this stage you reverse everything. Left hips moves in a Straight line left and you then unwind your shoulders.
This exercise is the basis of the golf swing. If you get this part right all you need to learn is how to use your wrists and your right knee to make the perfect golf swing.
"How to kill the Ball" golf instruction is the most effective and efficient way to swing your golf clubs. Many golfers have been able to hit much further than before and most importantly using much less effort. Less effort means less strain on your body and in particular your back. The swing is designed in such a way that people who have suffered from back problems can return to golf with minimal risk in hurting their backs.
I briefly touched on the different way the wrist are used in this golf swing method. We use an under and up action of the wrists to make the back swing. In effect we DO NOT rotate the club shaft instead the club shaft stays in the same position all the way up to the end of the back swing. Yes it stays on the same plane as such from start to finish.
Dan also explains a little more about the plane concept which makes it very easy for most golfers to understand what is going on in terms of swing planes. In his description he talks about a moving plane and how this effects your golf swing. Not one or 2 plane just one moving plane.
With over 70 years of research and countless golfers attesting to the effectiveness of this golf instruction method you would be hard pressed to find a better solution to improving your golf swing.
