On my recent golf visit to Japan I was fortunate enough to play alot of golf and also do a little teaching as well. Very few Japanese are aware of the "Mike Austin method" I teach......but that will soon change with the distribution of Dan Shaugers book "How to Kill the Ball" into Japan later this year.
With the translating of his book into Japan where there are over 10 million golfers I envisage a very busy time ahead.
The four golf students you will see below are all friends who work at a local hospital. Yutaka who hosted me is a Doctor with his own practise. The Japanese people are very keen on their golf and spend alot of time at the driving range.....which in itself can cause some problems.
Lets look at the first video which show's 3 of them making golf swings.
The next 3 video's are of "Karsun" in different positions with our method.
Karsun is performing a half shot to get his position of the hands and legs right.
This is an excellant video to view.......watch his right hip and right knee.
Karsun was having trouble with his approach shot. So I got him to practise this drill. We shortened up his back swing to allow him to concentrate on solid contact and accuracy. The key for karsun was using the right knee alot more and allowing his hip to naturally move to the right on the backswing.
I certainly enjoyed the challenge of teaching our Japanese friends......especially with the language barrier. However as we know with golf, if you watch a mimick what you have been shown it's not to difficult.
