Left Handed Golf Instruction
for the over 50's

Free golf instruction for left handed golfers.....especially the older ones who still enjoy playing their golf but get a little "frustrated" because of a lack of distance off the tee's and fairway's.

Our first left handed golfer is Bill Hawira a local golfer at the Te Awamutu Golf club. Bill plays off a 17 Handicap.....not bad when you consider his problem hips as you will see in his first golf swing video.

Without any further introduction press the red play button to view Bill's left handed golf swing

As you can see in Bill's swing he demonstrates some of the common difficulties that face golfers as we age.

The first BIG problem is a lack of movement of the lower body to help propel the golf club.....the second major issue is the restricted turning action in the back swing.

The first golf lesson that Bill received was how to "use his hips" to help create movement in his lower half. As you would've noticed in the top video, Bill was very flat footed and as a result this severly restricts his ability to swing through the ball with any great sense of authority and most importantly his ability to maintain balance is tested.

The first exercise for Bill was to move his hips in a side to side action. Starting from his right hip he moves his weight so that his left hip moves in a straight line directly left......side to side. From this sideways hip to hip action Bill started to hit ball's. As a direct result Bill started to hit the "ball further" with less effort than he had previously.

Yes what a difference this video is from the top one. Moving from side to side using the golf swing "body pivot" method that is unique to our golf instruction Bill was able to free up his hips and legs so they could easily transfer weight..... which by itself automatically increase's distance.

The body pivot actually perform's two important functions.
  1. Sets the lower half into position for transferring weight
  2. Allows the shoulder's to turn to a position that is further behind the ball
But without a doubt the number one benefit of our body pivot is being able to transfer weight easily and simply.

Work still needs to be done with Bill in the releasing action of the club head. As you can see he has a tendency to HOLD onto the club without actually releasing it. In the second video he does a better job than the top.

After Bill's first lesson he was able to hit a sandwedge further and straigher than normal and also his 7 irons were going between 120-130 metre's.

The next left handed golfer is Bill's wife Rewa. She's in her 70's and on a twenty something handicap. With Rewa's swing you will notice how easily she uses her lower body to turn through the shot. The lesson for her was "How to use the wrist's more using a hitting down action to the golf ball. In this video you will see how she swing's around as oppose to down.

Rewa's left handed golf swing

As you can see Rewa gets through the ball not to bad....her lower body works very well.....but you will notice the slightly bent right arm. We need to work on this. Her hands at set up are ahead of the ball which in our swing is desired.

I have put the 3 video's together so you can compare notes
